History

The Catholic Women's League of Canada was organized nationally on June 17, 1920 and granted federal incorporation on December 12, 1923. The League is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO), a worldwide federation holding membership in the conference of International Catholic Organizations (ICO) and having consultative status with agencies of the United Nations (UN).

St. Patrick Council #1416 was organized and officially granted its Charter on November 26th, 1951.  Mrs. F. Donnelly Sr. (First and Founding President) with the consent of Rev. T. L. Healy (First Spiritual Advisor) along with 42 other women of St. Patrick’s Parish became the charter/founding members of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada - St. Patrick Council #1416, under the patronage of Our Lady of Good Counsel.  The Council was temporarily inactive for 3 years, during the Parish move from Dundas/Dixie to 921 Flagship Dr.  Our next milestone 70th Anniversary celebration will be in 2024.
